Personal data: I wish to use a preferred given name instead of my official first given name

If you wish to use a preferred given name instead of your official given name, you can request this via the form.

There are a few conditions attached to this:

• The choice of a nickname must be a well-considered decision and must be motivated. This also means that a nickname can be refused if it is confusing, can harm the student or third parties involved, can be considered offensive, ridiculous, hateful, absurd or shocking when viewed alone or in combination with the official surname. 
• A nickname can only be requested once. After a student has requested that the nickname be removed, no new request can be made.
• A nickname consisting of multiple names, a single letter or a sequence of consonants is refused by default.
• A nickname is never used on official documents, such as certificates, attestations and transcripts.
• A nickname is used on the student card, in the UAntwerp e-mail address, in the student portal, in the SisA self-service and in the learning environment. 
• No rights can ever be derived from the use of a nickname.
• The university can never be held liable for mistakes or errors that are the result of using a nickname.

If a new student card is necessary due to the use of a preferred name, a cost is involved.
