Combining studying with religious holidays

What if you have to give a presentation on Eid al-Adha? Or you have a compulsory working class on Yom Kippur? Do you celebrate Orthodox Christmas and have to take an exam that day? The religious accommodations may offer you a solution!

Requesting accommodations

According to article 10.3.6 of the the Education and Examination Regulation, students can request not to be examined on official religious holidays. More information can be found here.

Check our overview of religious holidays and start your application for religious accommodations in time. For the first semester, the deadline is early October and for the second semester it is at the end of February. You can find the exact dates here.

Reporting a scheduling conflict to your faculty

After approval of your religious accommodations, you can contact your faculty via the Helpdesk at the latest up to 14 calendar days after the announcement of a mandatory evaluation moment to solve a scheduling conflict. In consultation with the lecturer, your faculty will examine what reasonable solutions are possible.

When contacting your faculty, you should mention the following:

• which religious holiday from your religious accommodations causes a scheduling conflict with a mandatory evaluation moment;
• the calculated/suspected date of that religious holiday (in accordance with the interpretation of the religious community in your statute). You need not mention your community at this contact.
• A copy of your religious accommodations status.
